Literally “single bracket arms,” dangong are individual bracket arms placed parallel to the building plane that support squared beams (fang 方), as opposed to other bracket arms (compare to chonggong 重栱). They can also be described as "linggong 令栱" in reference to their position and/or measurement (Li 2009, 4.3a-b). The practice of using only single bracket arms is called “dangongzao 單栱造.” As a historic architectural term, we have only found dangong in Yingzao fashi 營造法式 (1103) and Siling lu 思陵錄 (Zhou 1848, 173.11b). 4
單栱指平行於屋身方向的單層栱,其上承枋/方。斗栱僅用單層橫栱的做法稱單栱造,所用橫栱採取令栱的形式(李 2009, 卷4.3a, 卷9)。與單栱相對的概念是重栱。作爲建築術語,在曆史文獻中已知僅見於《營造法式》(1103) 及《思陵錄》(周 1848, 173.11b)。4
